JPLMuseum.org donates model rocket

rocket donation

Stayton High School is one of three schools in Oregon to receive a Lego Saturn V model rocket from JPLMuseum.org. The other two schools include Bandon HS and Henley HS in Klamath Falls.  The model rockets are designed to be used as a hands-on, team-building exercise for students for years to come. JPLMuseum.org sponsored classroom visits to over 1800 students around Oregon in October 2018. Students interacted with NASA engineer, Dr Norman Chaffee, who shared how he went from growing up in rural Oklahoma to playing a vital role for 38 years with NASA's Apollo missions to the moon, Mars, and beyond. SHS, Bandon and Henley were identified during these visits as schools where the students and communities demonstrated an unquenchable desire to learn and commitment to assist JPLMuseum.org  in fulfilling its mission.

JPLMuseum.org was established in 2015 by James Loftus to provide opportunities and experiences utilizing the artifacts from Joseph P. Loftus Jr.’s 47-year career with NASA. Joseph P. Loftus envisioned the concept as one that could provide a mobile hands-on, user-friendly museum exhibit geared toward all age groups. As part of the Rural Schools Educational Initiative, JPLMuseum.org strives to provide unique, nontraditional educational experiences by bringing NASA artifacts and engineers into classrooms. JPLMuseum.org  is located in the Historic Gardner House at 633 North Third Ave, Stayton.

JPLMuseum.org is excited to announce Remote And Distant Interactive Online Sessions (RADIOS) for the 2019 school year. This program is bringing together JPLMuseum.org, Oregon Connection Academy (ORCA), Space Center Houston (SCH), and Project Lead the Way (PLTW) for remote live interactive broadcasts with active and retired NASA engineers. Any high school that would like to participate should contact James.Loftus@JPLMuseum.org.

JPLMuseum.org would like to thank the following sponsors for making the Rural Schools Educational Initiative a success. PacifiCorp Foundation, Santiam Hospital, City of Stayton, 10 Barrel Brewing, HP Civil Engineering, Klamath County School District, Stayton Ford.  Because of the generous support of these major sponsors we can provide these unique educational experiences focused on science, technology, engineering, math and medicine.
