Dear Families,

We had a great week of athletics this week with only one game canceled across the board! It was great for me to see our boys soccer, 7th-grade football, and volleyball teams all compete in their home games this week.

Shelly Polk, our bussing director at Mid-Columbia, has done a phenomenal job trying to get our students to their games! I have been so impressed with her tenacity to get our kids to where they need to be! I want to publicly thank her for her amazing efforts. I can say without a doubt that our kids are able to get to more games than any other school in our league! Thank you so much for your work, Shelly!

Masking Requirement

Please remember that MASKS are REQUIRED for ALL spectators for any indoor competitions. We’ve done a pretty good job at our indoor competitions with only a few people here and there not adhering to this. Please help me out in ensuring that you or the people in your party attending games are masked. I met with all athletic directors in our league this week and they reported that it is becoming more and more of an issue in some gyms. I don’t think that is necessarily a problem here. We’ve all done a good job! However, please help all of us out in this effort. It’s safe to say that nobody likes wearing a mask, but it is necessary to keep our schools as safe as possible. Adhering to these requirements also ensures our ability and other schools ability to allow spectators into indoor spaces to watch our student-athletes compete. If you are attending our away games, please wear a mask. Remember that we are all representing our school communities when we travel to other schools. Again, I want to say that I believe that we are doing a good job in our buildings, but I don’t want our community to slip into some of the habits that I’m hearing in other schools. Keep up the great work to support our students and our athletic program!

Next Week’s Schedule:

4:00 pm, Volleyball @ Duniway
4:00 pm, Boys Soccer (Home) vs. Valor
CANCELLED: Girls Soccer @ Cheldelin
Volleyball (home) vs. French Prairie - Start time of 5:30 and 6:30
We will be honoring Laura Hollenbeck this night for her wonderful coaching career.
4:00 pm, Girls Soccer @ Linus Pauling
CANCELLED - 7th grade Football @ Neil Armstrong
8th-grade Football @ Talmadge - Kickoff @ 6:00

Again, if there are any changes to our schedule for next week, we will communicate that out as soon as possible. We are still dealing with officials shortages and bussing restraints.

Winter 1 Season - Girls Basketball and Wrestling It’s time to start preparing for our next season of sports! Girls basketball for 7th and 8th graders and wrestling is for boys and girls grades 6-8. If you have a student that is interested in these sports, please sign them up on FamilyID. If you have not created an account for FamilyID, here is the LINK. All of our athletic registration is now online so it is important that you do this as soon as possible. Practice for girls basketball will begin November 1, 2021 Practice for wrestling will begin November 8, 2021 - Wrestling will have a later start date because Coach King will be coaching football through November 3rd.

The registration deadline for girls basketball and wrestling is November 10. There will be no exceptions to this deadline so coaches can begin to prepare their teams for their first competitions which will most likely begin the week of November 15. Athletes who are not registered prior to the start date of their teams may not have the opportunity to compete in their first competitions.

As we head into our girls’ basketball season, I want you to be aware that there is a severe shortage in basketball officials. I’m not confident that we will be provided with any officials for our games. I know they are working very hard to provide officials for all games, but I also know that it will be impossible for them. With that being said, I am working on a plan to get our games officiated with local community members. You will also see me donning the black and white stripes and calling our games. If I’m being totally honest, I can’t wait! Thank you again for all you’re doing this year for your students. Keep up the great work.

Thank you in advance for ensuring your mask is on when you are inside our school! I feel so fortunate to be part of a community that is so supportive of our efforts to provide these opportunities for our students!

Go Vikings!
