COVID-19 Coronavirus Update 4.3.20

STAYTON MIDDLE SCHOOL

COVID-19 Coronavirus Update - April 3, 2020

Good Morning Parents, Students and Staff,

I hope this message once again finds you all healthy and keeping yourself and your families safe. I know that many of you continue to stay abreast of the COVID-19 situation through the North Santiam School District communication systems. It is always better to have more information and be overly prepared than to be caught off guard and become reactionary.

Stayton Intermediate/Middle School has begun the process of designing a system in which providing supplemental materials through google classroom, pick-up and delivery options will be ready for Monday. Today, staff continues to work in order to gather information related to families. We have made contact with just over 80% of our families and are aware of the specific needs of each. We continue to reach out to our families in a variety of ways. If you know of someone who has not been contacted, please have them call the school.

Just to be clear, next week starting Monday April 6th is a week of providing supplemental materials. However, starting on Monday April 13th we are mandated by ODE to begin the process of providing distance learning to our students. It will be imperative that parents, students and staff stay connected as you will all be receiving information with regards to grades, attendance and scheduling of staff contact hours.

I know this is a great deal of information. Just know that changes are on-going. Please be mindful that we are doing everything we can to make sure your student's educational needs will be met during this difficult time. None of us thought, or at least I didn’t, four weeks ago that there would be a possibility of students not returning. However, we have to be prepared for that scenario.

Again, I thank you for your patience during this difficult time. We are all navigating this together. Mistakes will be made, but we will learn from them and get better. No one will be perfect as we navigate towards distance learning in public education. However, I will tell you that your teachers are working extremely hard and care a great deal about your children. We all miss them and not a decision is made that every child hasn’t been thought about. We love our SIS/SMS school community. Have a safe and wonderful weekend. I will be in touch early next week with more information. You are ALL the best!!!!

Mr. Proctor

CHROMEBOOK DISTRIBUTION

CHROMEBOOK DISTRIBUTION

Our staff has done some amazing work over the past couple days to prepare an efficient and safe process for Chromebook distribution to families in need. We have decided not to limit the devices families may need to support their children at home. Parents who receive the devices are agreeing to the check out policy.

Please review the following information;

Process:

  • SIS/SMS will have separate entry and exit points. Blue tape will be on the floor to ensure social distancing.

  • Parents will pick up an envelope and show the staff member the number on the envelope and tell them your name or your child's name.

  • Staff will write the name down on the inventory list.

  • Parents are to exit.

Safety:

  • We ask families to limit pick up to one family member to the maximum extent possible to limit the number of people in the gym at one time.

Stayton Intermediate Middle School (Intermediate Gym) Enter through the East glass doors under the breezeway, and exit out the South door towards the parking lot.

  • Monday: 10:00am - 12:00pm and 5:00pm - 7:00pm

  • Tuesday: 10:00am - 12:00pm and 5:00pm - 7:00pm

Policy

  • Chromebooks are provided for checkout to assist students in having access to school authorized programs and to complete coursework or homework. Parents and students are agreeing to utilize this device for educational purposes in compliance with board policies IIBGA, IIBGA/AR and the Electronic Communication Agreement signed at the time of registration. Any intentional or negligent damage that occurs will be handled through the technology department and parents may be liable for the repair and/or replacement cost (value est. $200)

PACKET DELIVERY AND PICKUP

PACKET DELIVERY AND PICKUP

For those students who do not have internet access, packets will be available to pick up at the SMS front door on Monday, April 6 from noon to 7:00 pm. They will be in baskets by grade level, so you just take one packet for each student. All social distancing guidelines need to be followed.

For those students who let their teacher know they needed packets delivered, this will also occur on Monday. The packet will be left on our front door. If anyone in your household is sick, please let the SMS office know at 503.769.2198 and your packet will be mailed. We do not want to put anyone at risk of getting sick. Thanks for helping us to keep everyone safe.
