Good Morning Parents, Students and Staff,
I hope this message once again finds you all healthy and keeping yourself and your families safe. I know that many of you continue to stay abreast of the COVID-19 situation through the North Santiam School District communication systems. It is always better to have more information and be overly prepared than to be caught off guard and become reactionary.
Stayton Intermediate/Middle School has begun the process of designing a system in which providing supplemental materials through google classroom, pick-up and delivery options will be ready for Monday. Today, staff continues to work in order to gather information related to families. We have made contact with just over 80% of our families and are aware of the specific needs of each. We continue to reach out to our families in a variety of ways. If you know of someone who has not been contacted, please have them call the school.
Just to be clear, next week starting Monday April 6th is a week of providing supplemental materials. However, starting on Monday April 13th we are mandated by ODE to begin the process of providing distance learning to our students. It will be imperative that parents, students and staff stay connected as you will all be receiving information with regards to grades, attendance and scheduling of staff contact hours.
I know this is a great deal of information. Just know that changes are on-going. Please be mindful that we are doing everything we can to make sure your student's educational needs will be met during this difficult time. None of us thought, or at least I didn’t, four weeks ago that there would be a possibility of students not returning. However, we have to be prepared for that scenario.
Again, I thank you for your patience during this difficult time. We are all navigating this together. Mistakes will be made, but we will learn from them and get better. No one will be perfect as we navigate towards distance learning in public education. However, I will tell you that your teachers are working extremely hard and care a great deal about your children. We all miss them and not a decision is made that every child hasn’t been thought about. We love our SIS/SMS school community. Have a safe and wonderful weekend. I will be in touch early next week with more information. You are ALL the best!!!!
Mr. Proctor
